EXCELLENT Based on 112 reviews Posted on Google Hemma PatelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dom has been great at helping to relieve my neck pain and headaches. After only a few sessions, my headaches have stopped. He listened to what I wanted or didn't want as part of my treatment and made me feel comfortable.Posted on Google Max SimpsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had recurrent hamstring and lower muscle injuries for years as a rugby player working a desk job. Dom pointed out several factors that were causing the injuries I wasn’t aware of and his treatment has loosened up my entire posterior chain. Have been able to play with much lower rate of reoccurrence and at a higher level when I thought I was needing to retire at 27. Just finished an entire season injury free at 30.Posted on Google Demitri EliadesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great professional service, very knowledgeable. I have had many physical issues throughout my life whether it be a knee a hip, a neck or an ankle Dom is the guy. If you have any pain or alignment issues, then I would highly recommend this incredibly skilled man. I trust him 100% with all problems. Please note that he is also an incredible massage therapist and probably one of if not the most intuitive therapists I have ever had the pleasure of seeing, which in my case is literally hundreds. You don’t even have to tell him where that point is that you want him to massage or touch he will find it instantly. He’s incredibly geeky and 100% nerd worthy. He knows his stuff and is clearly an expert. Full of beans and positive energy. Plus, he’s built like a rugby player so no matter what your size he can do the job. You literally won’t get any better service from anyone else. Genuinely how I feel. Thanks Dom.Posted on Google David ThomasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dom has a brilliant demeanour; approachable, super knowledgeable and calming - this helped so much with understanding of my injury and return timelines. Having injured my shoulder playing rugby, I was struggling to exercise in any capacity, particularly playing rugby. Dom quickly diagnosed the injury and set out a plan for return to exercise. With Dom I was able to return to exercise with confidence and have had no problems since. Being an osteopath, Dom was able to perform manual therapy through dry needling and soft tissue manipulation in each session, which I am sure made a difference.Posted on Google Isobel Astley-CooperTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What Causes Hip Pain?
Hip pain rarely has a single simple cause, and pain felt around the hip can originate from several different structures including the hip joint itself, the surrounding muscles and tendons, the lower back, or the sacroiliac joint. Accurate diagnosis is essential before any treatment begins.
Hip osteoarthritis degenerative wear of the hip joint cartilage is one of the most common causes of hip pain, particularly in patients over 50. Symptoms include a deep aching pain in the groin, buttock, or thigh, morning stiffness, and progressive loss of movement, particularly rotation. Osteopathic treatment cannot reverse cartilage degeneration but can significantly reduce pain, maintain movement, and slow progression-often for many years before surgical intervention becomes necessary.
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) a condition in which abnormal contact occurs between the ball and socket of the hip joint during movement, causing pain in the groin and front of the hip, typically with flexion, sitting, and twisting. FAI is increasingly common in young active patients and athletes. Osteopathic treatment and targeted rehabilitation can manage symptoms effectively in many cases.
Hip labral tears the labrum is a ring of cartilage that deepens the hip socket and stabilises the joint. Tears can occur from a specific injury, from FAI, or from repetitive loading. Symptoms include groin pain, clicking, and a feeling of the hip catching or giving way. Osteopathic treatment focuses on reducing load through the labrum and improving hip mechanics.
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) previously known as trochanteric bursitis, this condition causes pain on the outer side of the hip and thigh, often worsening with walking, stairs, lying on the affected side, and crossing the legs. It is driven by dysfunction of the gluteal tendons and responds well to osteopathic treatment and a structured loading programme.
Hip flexor strain and tendinopathy the hip flexors, particularly the iliopsoas, can be frequently strained in runners, cyclists, and people who sit for long periods. Pain is felt at the front of the hip and groin, often worsening with lifting the knee and prolonged sitting.
Gluteal tendinopathy degeneration or pain of the gluteal tendons causes lateral hip pain that is often confused with bursitis. It is particularly common in perimenopausal women but can present in younger, active patients and responds well to a specific progressive loading rehabilitation programme.
Referred pain from the lower back and sacroiliac joint the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint frequently refer pain into the hip, buttock, and groin. This is one of the most common sources of diagnostic confusion as patients are told they have a hip problem when the source is actually in the lower back, or vice versa. A thorough whole-body assessment is essential to identify the true source.
Snapping hip syndrome a snapping or clicking sensation around the hip, sometimes accompanied by pain, caused by a muscle or tendon flicking over a bony prominence. More common in dancers, gymnasts, and young athletes.

Hip Pain in Bristol Treatment
How Osteopathy Helps Hip Pain
At Move Easy Osteopathy in Bristol, every hip assessment begins with a thorough examination of the hip, lower back, pelvis, and lower limb. We identify not just where the pain is, but why it’s there and we treat accordingly:
Joint mobilisation
specific techniques to restore normal movement in the hip joint and the joints of the lower back and pelvis. Improving mobility in the hip reduces compensatory loading through the knee, lower back, and opposite side — addressing the full chain, not just the painful joint.
Soft tissue treatment
targeted work on the hip flexors, gluteal muscles, piriformis, iliotibial band, and surrounding structures to reduce tension, improve circulation, and restore normal movement patterns.
Medical Acupuncture
highly effective for hip conditions involving trigger points in the gluteal muscles, TFL, and hip flexors. Particularly useful for chronic lateral hip pain and gluteal tendinopathy.
Gait Analysis
for patients whose hip pain is related to walking or running, we assess gait patterns and identify contributing movement faults. Small changes in how you move can make a significant difference to hip loading.
Exercise Rehabilitation
using our gym space, we design a progressive rehabilitation programme targeting gluteal strength, hip stability, and movement quality. For most hip conditions building strength in the right muscles is the foundation of lasting recovery. We assess how you squat, lunge, walk, and run, and address the weaknesses we find.
Lifestyle and Load Advice
for tendinopathies and overuse injuries, how much you do and how quickly you progress is as important as the treatment itself. We give you a clear, structured plan for managing activity during recovery.

1. A detailed discussion about your pain-when it started, what makes it better or worse, and how it’s affecting your life

3. We’ll assess how you move including walking, squatting and single-leg activities to identify contributing factors

Frequently Asked Questions About Hip Pain
Can an osteopath help with hip pain?
Yes. Osteopathy is effective for a wide range of hip conditions, from acute muscle strains and tendinopathies to chronic osteoarthritis and impingement. Accurate diagnosis is the starting point, and treatment is tailored to the specific cause of your pain.
Can osteopathy help with hip osteoarthritis?
Yes. While osteopathy cannot reverse cartilage degeneration, it can significantly reduce pain, improve joint movement, and slow the progression of symptoms. Many of our patients with hip osteoarthritis manage their condition successfully for years through a combination of manual treatment and exercise rehabilitation, avoiding or delaying surgery.
Can osteopathy help with hip impingement (FAI)?
Yes, in many cases. Osteopathic treatment and targeted rehabilitation can reduce symptoms significantly in patients with FAI, particularly when started before significant cartilage damage has occurred. Surgery is not always necessary.
My pain is on the outside of my hip. What could that be?
Lateral hip pain is most commonly caused by greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS), which is a condition involving the gluteal tendons. It is frequently misdiagnosed as bursitis. It responds well to osteopathic treatment and a progressive loading programme, and is something we treat regularly.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the diagnosis. Acute soft tissue injuries often improve within 4-6 sessions. Chronic conditions including osteoarthritis, tendinopathy, FAI, typically require a longer course of treatment and a structured exercise programme. We’ll give you a realistic indication at your first appointment.
Do I need a scan before seeing an osteopath?
No. In most cases we can assess and begin treating hip pain without imaging. If we feel an X-ray or MRI would help confirm the diagnosis or guide treatment, we’ll advise you accordingly. You don’t need to wait for a scan before booking.
Is hip pain normal as you get older?
Hip stiffness and some degree of degenerative change is common with age, but significant pain that limits your life is not something you simply have to accept. There is usually a great deal that can be done, regardless of age or how long you’ve had the pain.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly with us. If we identify anything that requires further investigation or onward referral, we’ll advise you at your appointment.
How quickly can I get an appointment in Bristol?
We aim to offer appointments within a few days. Book online or call us and we’ll get you in as soon as possible.
Red Flags and When to Seek Urgent Help

– Is accompanied by fever, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss
– Came on suddenly and is severe, with the leg appearing shortened or rotated
– Is rapidly worsening without a clear mechanical cause
– Is accompanied by groin pain, fever, and feeling unwell
If in doubt, always seek urgent medical advice before booking an osteopathic appointment.
